I am able to connect to the server on a computer within my network, however, if I try to connect to it from outside my network, even though I have port forwarded ports 21,90-51000 (Passive ports) it still will not let me connect from outside. For example, Microsoft's FTP server used to be, so we'd enter ftp: // here if we wanted to connect to that particular server. I am using ports: 50000-51000 for passive ports. I know PuTTY is capable of port forwarding through ssh, Im just not sure how to use it. Every other post about this topic says the person mysteriously found this problem fixed the next day. I would prefer to tunnel an FTP connection through the work machine via PuTTY so I may use my FTP client of choice, FileZilla, to accomplish my FTP needs on the server. These port behave in different was in active or passive mode FTP mode. ![]() After the correct FTP username and password are entered through FTP client software, the FTP server software opens port 21, which is sometimes called the command or control port, by default. I have tried setting up an FTPS server to share uncut footage faster than sending it through Gmail. FTP ports 20 and 21 must both be open on the network for successful file transfers. For the implicit option you only need to have the firewall open for the control port: 8086 (which forwards internally to port 21 on your filezilla server). ![]()
